An artist memorial tribute to the 1.3 million serving Indian soldiers in the Great War of which over 74.000 lost their lives. It was the Indian Jawans who stopped the German advance at Ypres. It was also at Ypres that Khudadad Khan won the corps first Victoria Cross on the 31st October 1914. Indian soldiers also served in German East Africa, Egypt and Gallipoli.The Indian corps won 13.000 medals for gallantry including 12 Victoria Crosses.

and civilians died during WW1 between 1914 and 1918 from military action, infection and disease.
